Planning Consent granted for New Homes in North Kensington
News — 15 Mar 2022
Approval for a new council-owned housing scheme was unanimously granted at last night’s committee meeting (15.03.22) by RBKC planners.
The housing development is located on Barlby Road, W10 and alongside 83 new homes will also provide a new indoor sports facility, landscaping and community garden, a new north-south pedestrian route running through the site and an extension to an existing dental practice. Most homes will be social or intermediate rent to meet the pressing need for more homes in the borough (38 social, 10 intermediate). Extensive public consultation was carried out to ensure the plans reflected the views and needs of the local community.
The proposal involves four brick buildings which have been positioned to respond to the surrounding context, maximise daylight and sunlight, and to reinforce the edges of the site and existing street pattern.
At the centre is a large communal garden providing residential amenity space, which can be easily accessed by all buildings, and from a new north/south pedestrian route running through the site.
The scheme is anchored around a new public space in the southwest corner, which is incorporates an existing community garden and mature plane tree. This public space provides access to the sports facility which runs along the western boundary of the site beneath two of the residential buildings and is conveniently positioned for use by the new school immediately to the west.
