Unanimous Planning Consent for Iconic Maida Vale Studios Scheme

News — 01 Apr 2025

Today, Tuesday 1st April 2025, the City of Westminster Planning committee granted unanimous planning consent to MVS Partnership & Stiff+Trevillion, working in conjunction with investment and development manager Portman Group, for the comprehensive refurbishment of the world-famous Grade II Listed Maida Vale Studios in West London. The studios have been used to record thousands of classical music, popular music and drama sessions since the BBC converted the building in 1934.

In 2023 the studios were sold to a partnership of Working Title’s Tim Bevan & Eric Fellner with the legendary composer Hans Zimmer and Steven Kofsky, whose ambitious plans to create an outstanding venue for creative work have moved a step closer.

The approved scheme aims to seamlessly blend the artistic legacy of this illustrious recording studio with the rapidly changing demands of today’s creative industries, to provide a world-class facility that combines state-of-the-art music studios, with all elements of film post-production under one roof.

“We’re delighted that the proposed plans for Maida Vale Studio have been approved. The team have worked hard to create a balance that preserves the outstanding musical legacy of the existing building while sensitively ensuring it can serve the creative community for decades to come”, Lance Routh, Director Stiff+Trevillion.
