20 Old Broad Street - which forms part of the wider Tower 42 Estate - is a part-retention and part-demolition of an existing office building, to be redeveloped to provide a new hotel. The project will significantly improve energy use through measures such as upgrading the building envelope, and renewing services to all-electric heat-pump technology. The project seeks to retain much of the existing building fabric as possible to minimise carbon impacts. As part of the extension of 20 Old Broad Street, a new façade treatment is proposed which promises to create a new high-quality façade which will enhance the surrounding area, having been carefully considered to respond to the neighbouring buildings. Other proposed improvements as part of the project include providing a new and improved step-free link passageway between the Tower 42 Plaza and Fountain Court. The creation of a new route also involves some works to the rear of Gibson Hall.
