With a stack of uses – retail, office and residential – and differing floor heights, we designed this building for Native Land on the Edgware Road to read as a single object. To its civic side, strong limestone verticals are broken down with blue faience panels; to the rear it adopts the local vernacular of mid-century mansion blocks with elevations of red brick. Flanking the entrance on George Street is ‘Grass Forms’, an 8-metre-high work in limestone by sculpture Hugo Dalton, a fluid yet solid screen between public and private territories.
