Tower Bridge Court is the sustainable refurbishment, extension and re-purposing of an existing building. This is prominent and strategically important site required a scheme that would enhance its setting within the Tower Bridge Conservation Area. Setting the benchmark for material reuse, 20 tonnes of 1930s steel beams were salvaged from the former House of Fraser on Oxford Street and reused within TBC. This pioneering scheme will save an estimated 48 tonnes of carbon dioxide when compared with using new steelwork, equivalent to driving a car around the earth 50 times, or the annual carbon absorbed by 20 acres of trees. TBC has recycled an estimated 100 tonnes of steel from the former department store refurbishment. This makes up 20% of the total steel used at TBC. The remaining steel framing at TBC.London contains at least 56% recycled content. TBC.London will be 100% electric and net zero carbon in operation, with no fossil fuels used in running the property. The project is targeting EPC A, WELL Platinum and BREEAM Outstanding.
