Tranquil House is a two storey semi-detached Victorian house in London. Working within the strict requirements of a Conservation Area, this project sensitively combines traditional design with a contemporary intervention, seeking similarity through materials and maintaining a visual continuity. The project entailed the reconfiguration of the ground floor, with particular respect for the original Victorian character which distinguishes the front of the house and, a more contemporary open-plan living space at the rear where the proposed extension meets the private garden. Key to the projects success is the relationship between the living spaces and the garden; indoor and outdoor spaces merge harmonically.
