In London, much of the private housing stock is well over a hundred years old, and we are often working within spaces designed for life in the Edwardian, Victorian or even late Georgian eras. Reconfiguring these for twenty-first century lifestyles is a challenge. Not only do our clients seek open-plan living spaces and completely new uses such as cinema rooms or pools, but we also need to equip homes with the environmental and technological infrastructure needed for modern-day life. Understanding the spatial potential offered by these older buildings – and the syntax of how people use them - is key.
